The ‘overnight success’ that was 20 years in the making: Patrick Brammall’s rise to fame

Patrick Brammall has won the hearts of Hollywood – but long before that, he was beloved among Australian TV fanatics.

He was hailed an ‘overnight success’ after Colin from Accountsthe hit Binge show he co-wrote and stars in with wife Harriet Dyer, charmed viewers around the world. However, he’s had a successful career long before that, starring in major Aussie productions including Offspring and The Moodys.

Now, Brammall is about to share the big screen with Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Where is Patrick Brammall from?

The actor was born in Canberra in 1976.

He was unwell for the first 10 years of his life after being diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called prune belly syndrome, which meant he had several surgeries and spent a significant amount of time in the hospital as a child.

Brammall attended Catholic schools in the area and moved to Melbourne to attend university once he turned 18

Brammall earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Victorian College of Arts, and graduated in 2001.

He got his first notable acting gig three years later, playing Matt Marione in the film The Alice, he also starred in the TV series of the same name, released the next year.

What else has Patrick Brammall been in?

Since his first big role in 2004, he has starred in many TV shows and movies.

He then played Ethan Black in the beloved TV drama Home and Away, starting on the show in 2007.

He played Leo Taylor, a love interest for Asher Keddie’s character Nina Proudman, in the beloved comedy-drama Offspring, which ran for seven seasons from in 2010.

Brammall also starred in the ABC sitcoms A Moody Christmas and The Moodys in 2012 and 2014.

He played Danny Bright in the ABC comedy show Upper Middle Bogan, which ran for three seasons between 2013 and 2016.

In 2015, he played James Hayes in the ABC television drama Glitch, which ran for three seasons over four years.

Hollywood celebrities who fell in love with Aussies

Brammall also played the role of Uncle Rad in the smash-hit cartoon Bluey, and has acted in dozens of other Aussie TV shows and movies.

His acting accolades made him well-known within Australia, but his role in Colin from Accounts catapulted him to international stardom.

The actor won the Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actor in 2023 for his role as Gordon in the show.

Brammall is confirmed to be in the upcoming Devil Wears Prada sequel, and will reportedly play Anne Hathaway’s character Andy Sachs’ love interest.

The actor was recently spotted on set with Hathaway in New York.

Brammall and his wife, Harriet Dyer, have two children together.

They adopted their first daughter, Joni Jane Brooklyn Brammall in September 2021.

The pair welcomed their second daughter, Mabel, in February 2025.
