Eric Dane’s ex Rebecca Gayheart has opened up about her relationship with the Grey’s Anatomy star amid his diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
“I mean, it’s super complicated for me,” she said in a recent podcast interview on Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson & Olivia Allen.
Dane and Gayheart, who share two daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, have been married since 2004 but have been separated since 2018.

Gayheart initially filed for divorce from the actor in 2018 but dismissed the divorce filing in March this year.
A month later, Dane revealed in an interview with People that he was diagnosed with ALS , which is called motor neurone disease in Australia.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he told the publication at the time.

“I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” he continued.
Speaking to Bilson and Allen, Gayheart confirmed that she and Dane have remained separated for “eight years” and that her daughters live with her “100 per cent of the time” but she is determined to show up for Dane who she says remains part of her family despite the split.
“I am definitely trying to show [my daughters] that we show up for people no matter what,” she explained.
“And he is our family, he is your father. We show up and we try to do it with some dignity and some grace and just get through it, and that we will get through it the best we can.”
“There’s been lots of just stuff, other stuff,” she continued.
“I try to stay optimistic, though, about it all. I’m trying to learn from it and role model, for them, how to go through something like this, which is really hard.”
Gayheart admits she’s navigating this new challenge with uncertainty but is just trying to show up as well as she can for her kids and Dane.
”It’s all very humbling,” she added.
“And I think one piece of this that I hope I’m passing to my kids is the idea that you can show up for someone and be there for them, but you also have to show up for yourself, and that this is life.
“Life, sadly, is just moments, good and bad, strung together. There’s gonna be good ones, there’s gonna be bad ones, there’s gonna be exciting ones, it’s gonna be really sad.”
