Doctor Who and Carry On star Julian Holloway dies aged 80 following short illness

British acting great Julian Holloway has died at the age of 80, it has been confirmed.

His agents confirmed the sad news in a statement to The Guardian, revealing he died in a UK hospital on February 16 following a short illness.

Holloway, who was the father of model, socialite and author Sophie Dahl, 47, was best known for roles in the Carry On film franchise and Doctor Who.

He also did voice acting and voiced characters in James Bond Jr and Where’s Wally?

One of his last acting credits was the TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which ran from 2010 to 2020.

Hailing from a town in Oxfordshire, he was born to late acting and comedy great and My Fair Lady star Stanley Holloway, who died in 1982, and actress Violet Lane.

In the early ’70s, Julian Holloway was married to actress Zena Walker, but they soon split. He went on to father Sophie Dahl with Tessa Dahl, author Roald Dahl’s daughter.

Later, in the ’90s, he married actress Debbie Walker but they soon split.

Sophie Dahl, who he is survived by, has yet to publicly comment on the sad news of her father’s death, but tributes have poured in for the late star.

Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes reportedly wrote on Facebook following new of his death: ‘’Oh I am very sad. Wonderful man.”

“Wishing you and all his family long life. Too many going.,” she said.

English actress and Superman star Sarah Douglas wrote on her Facebook account: “I lost a dear friend yesterday and I’m so, so sad.”

“I have known Julian Holloway since the early 70’s and he has been the best of friends to me all these years,” Douglas wrote.

She went on to call him “a friend through thick and thin” and said he is “sorely missed”.

His exact cause of death has not yet been revealed.
