‘Never gets easier’: Tammin Sursok shares brutal reality of life as an actress in vulnerable video

Aussie actress Tammin Sursok has shared an insight into the brutal realities of showbiz in a vulnerable Instagram video, telling fans, “It’s harder than you think.”

Sursok, who rose to fame in the early 2000s on Home and Away, filmed the clip after learning she’d missed out on a TV job, telling her 1.3 million followers she’d been “down to the wire” for the lead role.

“This happens a lot. The amount of times it’s been me and another girl, my whole career,” the homegrown star said, wiping away tears.

Sursok, whose screen credits include hit US shows Pretty Little Liars, The Young and the Restless and Hannah Montana, said the life of an actress was “harder” than it seems.

“People think, ‘Oh, just get on a show, do a film’. It’s not that easy. And for me, it’s always down to the last two,” she added forlornly.

Sharing the video on Instagram, Sursok wrote, “Never gets easier.”

The post clearly hit a nerve with fellow performers and creatives, many of whom shared their support in the comments.

Aussie musician Nathan Cavaleri said he could relate to Sursok’s experience, despite the differences in their industries.

“From somebody in the music industry putting themselves out there daily, I feel you!” the guitarist and singer-songwriter wrote.

“Probably the worst time to give advice but an old friend of mind said tht every closed door is just directing us on where to go.

“But I suppose the only way to subscribe to that philosophy is to have faith in the unknown, which can be quite difficult.”

Christie Hayes, who played Sursok’s on-screen sister in Home and Away, also shared her condolences.

“I’m so sorry honey, be so proud of yourself for how close you got, and remember you are already a leading lady,” she wrote.

”You have been the lead on TV shows before, you will be the lead on the next one. This was a huge win even though it hurts.”

Actress Sarah Bonrepaux said Sursok’s post “hits so much”.

“It is tough and unfair, but it will come to you! Rejection is redirection,” the Cursed star wrote.

“These days are so tough because there is less opportunities and literally every single working actor is fighting for the job.”

In response to a commenter asking whether she could request a reason for being passed over for the role, Sursok said it can be determined by “millions [of] things”.

“It can literally be down to your height, or someone in production knows their work better, or they are related to someone,” she said.
