Four months after saying “I do”, Renee Zellweger said, “Actually, I don’t”.
In May 2005, the actress married country singer Kenny Chesney after four months of dating. They’d met in January at NBC’s Concert of Hope.
Confirmation of their budding romance came in April, when Zellweger appeared on stage with Chesney at one of his shows.
The following month they wed at the singer’s private estate in the U.S Virgin Islands in front of a small group of loved ones.
Less than four months later, the newlywed Zellweger filed for an annulment, citing “fraud” as the reason.
This sparked plenty of confusion and speculation, which she addressed in a statement explaining “the term ‘fraud’ as listed in the documentation is simply legal language and not a reflection of Kenny’s character.”
“This is an incredibly sad time. I just hope everyone can respect the privacy that I know Renée has already asked for,” Chesney added in a statement of his own.
